Arsenal To Recall Perez From Loan

Arsene Wenger is considering terminating Lucas Perez’s loan as he bids to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options in the January transfer window, according to reports. The 29-year-old, who only scored once in his 11 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, returned to Deportivo La Coruna on loan over the summer. The Spanish striker has been in good form in La Liga since going back to his homeland, and leads Deportivo’s scoring charts with four league goals this season – as many as Cristiano Ronaldo.

And now the Daily Mirror claim that Wenger is mulling over bringing Perez back into the Arsenal fold in what could be a busy January for the Gunners. Wenger is considering allowing Theo Walcott to leave the club, with Southampton, Everton and West Ham all enquiring after a player who has grown frustrated with the lack of opportunities at Emirates.

But, with Olivier Giroud already sidelined and Alexis Sanchez wanted by Manchester City and PSG, Wenger is wary of being left light up front and believes Perez could be an option. The French manager still likes the striker – who he signed for around £17 million in 2016 – and has not closed the door on him as an Arsenal player.

Another area Wenger would like to strengthen in January is at centre-back, where the club are managing a number of injuries and have been forced to use usual full-back Nacho Monreal in the heart of the defence regularly. West Brom’s Jonny Evans, who is also on Man City’s wish list, remains a target, while former Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat has identified Mainz star Abdou Diallo as another potential signing.
