Liverpool End Lemar Interest

Liverpool have shelved their interest in Thomas Lemar due to the £90million asking price that’s been put on the French forward, according to reports. Monaco have reportedly told suitors that they will not consider any offer lower than that figure. The Times report that Jurgen Klopp does not believe the France international is worth that much, with Liverpool’s valuation closer to £60m.

The Liverpool coach, who wants to reinvest the £142m received for Philippe Coutinho wisely, would rather wait until the summer in the hope players can be found for better value. It’s thought Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund is seen at Liverpool as a suitable alternative to Lemar.

The development will please Arsenal, who are also keen on Lemar. The Gunners were prepared to pay £90m last summer for Lemar before a deal for the 22-year-old collapsed. With Alexis Sanchez thought to be on the verge of leaving the Emirates, Lemar would be an ideal replacement.

Earlier this month Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim hinted a deal for Lemar was possible. ‘Today, the market is open. You know how crazy the market is. Things happen that even a club like Monaco cannot say no to. It happened to Liverpool [with Coutinho]. ‘Things are as they are. The numbers today are incredibly big. Everything can change.’
