Mourinho To Wait For Injury Update Before Making Transfer Plans

Jose Mourinho has revealed he will wait to see if key Manchester United players can shake off injuries before making transfer plans. The January window opened on Monday and United have been linked with a host of players across the Premier League and beyond. Mourinho is currently without crucial Red Devils such as Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and admitted he could be forced to dip into the transfer market.

But, after beating Everton 2-0, Mourinho insisted he was awaiting injury news before deciding whether to splash the cash. ‘I don’t know about transfers,’ he said after the 2-0 win against Everton. ‘In this moment we are in trouble, in 2-3 weeks time maybe we recover and we breathe in a different way.

‘Can we improve now or do we wait util the summer? I cannot say.’ United have been linked with players across the pitch with Juventus duo Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro being watched, as well as Chelsea attacker Willian. Mourinho is thought to be keen to add more width and cover at the back after hitting out at his players before the win at Everton.

United drew three games in a row before beating Everton and Mourinho admitted he was very pleased with his players. He said: ‘Our pride, our effort, everything was top class and on top of it we played very well. ‘It wasn’t a performance of tired boys, with the worst possible calendar that you gave us. ‘Everton had a reaction for five, eight minutes, but we were always in control. We changed our profile because we didn’t have Romelu Lukaku and I am really pleased.
